If I were to borrow your car for a few days, you would expect me to return it undamaged. Not that I could guarantee that your car won’t get scratched, but you would hold me accountable for the care of it. Or, if you were managing my assets in a trust fund, I would hold you accountable for the results. Not that you could guarantee a two hundred percent return on my money, but there still must be accountability.
This principle is true for our relationship with God as well. God calls us to accountability for what we do with what he has entrusted to us. While it’s tempting to compare ourselves to others and say, “She has more than I have” or, “He gets all the lucky breaks,” the real issue is accountability. It’s not what we’ve got but what we do with what we’ve got that matters to God!
