In an article about several scientific studies, US News and World Report said, “the grit it takes to stand up against the psychological pressures of competition… is what separates the champions from the also-rans.” It went on to say, “Psychological stress is now considered crucial to top level performance.”
These findings suggest that it’s the presence of stress and pressure encountered by Olympic champions that enables them to win the prize.
Almost two thousand years ago the New Testament used the Olympics as a metaphor to make a similar claim about Christians, “Blessed is the one who perseveres under trial, because when you have stood the test, you will receive the crown of life that God has promised to those who love him.”
In other words, it’s the tough times that prepare us for our future good.
